Introduction
Il y a différentes interprétations concernant l’ange de l’Apocalypse 18, certaines d’entre elles très singulières. Dans le contexte adventiste on a beaucoup parlé de cet ange. Mais en réalité qui est-il ? Que représente-t-il ou qui ? C’est peut-être un ange littéral ? Voyons ce que la Bible et les Témoignages nous enseignent à ce sujet.
La gloire de Dieu
Après le péché, l’homme a toujours désiré voir Dieu, sans doute pour s’assurer que celui qui l’avait créé existait et donc qu’il avait une origine divine. Plusieurs fois, j’ai entendu des incroyants dire que pour croire ils auraient besoin de voir Dieu. Moïse a demandé à Dieu de pouvoir le contempler, il voulait voir sa gloire, avoir l’assurance que sa mission en Egypte était approuvée et qu’il serait avec lui (Exode 33 : 18.), mais il ne put voir qu’en partie parce que personne ne peut voir Dieu et vivre.
Le péché rompit la relation directe entre l’homme et Dieu. Mais malgré cela, Dieu n’a pas voulu briser la relation avec nous et c’est la raison pour laquelle Jésus est venu dans le monde pour révéler Dieu et sa gloire. Jean a dit : « Personne n’a jamais vu Dieu ; le Fils unique, qui est dans le sein du Père, est celui qui l’a fait connaître. » Jean 1 : 18. Un autre argument quant à la gloire de Dieu révélée en Jésus, se trouve dans les paroles suivantes : « Je suis dans le Père, et… le Père est en moi. » Jean 14 : 10. Certains diront que le visage de Jésus ne brillait pas, et que son corps ne dégageait pas de lumière. Mais la gloire de Dieu n’est pas exclusivement un brillant ou une lumière, c’est quelque chose de plus encore. C’est son caractère !
Adam et Eve ont été créés à l’image et à la ressemblance de Dieu ; c’est à-dire qu’ils n’étaient pas comme Dieu, mais ils révélaient Dieu. Dans quel sens ? Alors qu’ils étaient obéissants, ils étaient revêtus comme avec un voile de gloire. La Bible dit qu’ils étaient nus et n’en avaient point honte (Genèse 2 : 25.) parce qu’une partie de la gloire de Dieu reposait sur eux et les couvrait comme un voile.
Ensuite quand ils ont péché, ils ont transgressé les commandements de Dieu comme en témoigne le fait qu’ils ont convoité ce qui ne leur appartenait pas, ils ont accepté d’autres dieux, dans le sens où ils ont mis la parole du diable au-dessus de la Parole de Dieu et ils ont volé en prenant du fruit défendu de l’arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal. Ils ont cessé d’être obéissants, leur attitude envers Dieu changea. La manière d’être de Dieu ne se révélait plus en eux, le caractère de Dieu ne se manifestait plus dans leur vie ; Dieu est saint, et la gloire de Dieu avait disparu. Le manteau de lumière qui les couvrait disparut et comme conséquence ils eurent honte de leur nudité (Genèse 3 : 10.), qu’ils ne ressentaient pas avant de pécher. Nous pouvons alors affirmer :

Nous voyons que la gloire d’Adam et Ève n’était pas la lumière qui entourait leur corps, mais qu’elle était une conséquence du caractère qu’ils avaient : Ils étaient saints, ils étaient en harmonie avec la volonté de Dieu qui s’exprime dans l’obéissance aux Dix Commandements. Quand ils ont cessé d’obéir à Dieu, ils ont perdu leur sainteté et donc la lumière qui les entourait. Ils avaient livré leur volonté à Satan et plus jamais ils ne révèleraient parfaitement le caractère de Dieu, et ne le pouvaient même par des efforts personnels parce que leur nature sainte était devenue une nature pécheresse. C’est comme si ma nature humaine se modifiait en une nature de lion, je ne pourrais pas être végétarien même si je m’y efforçais et je ne regarderais pas les chevreuils, les gazelles ou des zèbres avec la sympathie avec laquelle je les vois aujourd’hui.
Plan de rédemption
Ce fut pour nos premiers parents une catastrophe, qui allait frapper l’ensemble de l’univers et remettre en question le caractère sacré de Dieu car le diable l’avait accusé d’avoir créé une loi qui ne pouvait pas être obéie. La chute d’Adam et Ève était comme une confirmation de cette affirmation. Immédiatement Dieu mit en application son plan B : Le Seigneur Jésus-Christ, la deuxième personne de la divinité, un être égal à Dieu en caractère et également l’auteur de la loi des dix commandements, viendrait dans ce monde pour rétablir la gloire de Dieu dans l’homme.
Cela ne pourrait être effectué que par une obéissance parfaite à la loi de Dieu. Quelqu’un égal en nature à l’être humain prendrait sa place et ferait pour l’homme ce qu’il n’avait pas fait. Dans son humanité il révèlerait la gloire de Dieu, en se soumettant volontairement à la loi des dix commandements. Il est très important de comprendre que le Christ n’obéit pas à la loi de Dieu en usant de sa divinité, car il est clair que dans son incarnation, Jésus ne perdit pas sa divinité, mais qu’elle fut voilée par son humanité ; il n’usa jamais de ses pouvoirs à des fins personnelles. Il obéit comme un être humain, parce qu’il était cent pour cent humain, et en même temps cent pour cent Dieu. Il n’est pas facile à notre esprit de le comprendre.
« La doctrine de l’incarnation du Christ dans une chair humaine constitue un mystère, “le mystère caché de tout temps et dans tous les âges”. Colossiens 1 : 26. C’est le grand et profond mystère de la piété. … Le Christ a revêtu une nature humaine, inférieure à sa nature céleste. » – The Review & Herald, 5 avril 1906. « Le Christ n’a pas seulement fait semblant d’assumer la nature humaine ; il l’a prise en toute vérité. » – The Review & Herald, 5 avril 1906. L’apôtre Paul l’a dit de cette manière : « Dieu a condamné le péché dans la chair, en envoyant, à cause du péché, son propre Fils dans une chair semblable à celle du péché. » (Romains 8 : 3.)
Quelqu’un dans notre nature, mais qui révèle la gloire de Dieu dans sa vie : « Il a été tenté comme nous en toutes choses, sans commettre de péché. » Hébreux 4 : 15. C’est ce que nous disons depuis le début, que la gloire de Dieu, son caractère, cessa d’être révélée en Adam et Ève à cause du péché, mais Jésus a été en mesure de la révéler dans sa vie, avec son obéissance parfaite, même en le faisant avec une nature humaine déchue, avec un passif de quatre mille ans : « Dieu demeurait révélé au monde à travers le caractère de son Fils… » – Pour un bon équilibre mental et spirituel, vol. 1, p. 254.
N’est-ce pas vraiment extraordinaire ? Quelle profondeur ! Quelle beauté ! Jésus n’a pas usé de son pouvoir divin en sa faveur, mais il obéit avec la puissance qu’il reçut du Père par le Saint-Esprit. Le schéma présenté initialement s’applique parfaitement au Christ :

Christ était parfait en obéissance, il révéla donc la gloire de Dieu, comme lui-même le reconnaît : « Qu’ils voient ma gloire, la gloire que tu m’as donnée. » Jean 17 : 24. Le plan de la rédemption consiste en ce que quelqu’un égal à Dieu, devienne homme égal à nous pour vaincre le péché (vivre en harmonie avec la loi) et révéler la gloire de Dieu dans son caractère, démontrant ainsi la façon dont Adam et Ève auraient pu décider de continuer à être saints, et s’ils ont péché c’est parce qu’ils ont fait ce choix librement.
Notre dette envers Dieu a été réglée lorsque le Christ est mort sur le Calvaire comme Agneau de Dieu qui ôte les péchés du monde. Son sang a expié nos péchés et les expie encore si nous acceptons Jésus comme notre Sauveur personnel. Attention, cela est important, non seulement il pardonne nos péchés, mais il nous donne aussi le pouvoir de vaincre le péché grâce à l’aide du Saint-Esprit.
Christ notre justice
Cette vérité a été oubliée à travers les siècles. Voilà pourquoi le Seigneur suscite le grand mouvement de l’Avent pour faire revivre les anciennes vérités au temps de la fin. Au cours de notre époque, qui commença au dix-neuvième siècle, le triple message angélique est prêché et se résume comme suit :
Premier message angélique : En substance ce message dit que nous devons aimer Dieu, lui donner gloire, l’adorer, et que le jugement a commencé. (Apocalypse 14 : 7.) Que signifie tout cela d’une manière compréhensible ? Que nous devons révéler le caractère de Dieu en nous en obéissant à ses commandements. Le résultat du jugement universel dépendra de l’attitude que nous prenons.
Deuxième message angélique : Il indique que Babylone est tombée et a abreuvé toutes les nations du vin de la fureur de son impudicité. (Apocalypse 14: 8.). Le vin signifie que Babylone a piétiné les commandements de Dieu et tout le monde est intoxiqué par ses fausses doctrines (vin) ; le dimanche qui serait un jour saint, l’immortalité de l’âme, la vénération des saints, le culte des images, le baptême des enfants, l’enfer, le purgatoire, la confession auriculaire, etc., sont toutes des doctrines sans fondement biblique.
Troisième message angélique : Il nous recommande de ne pas adorer la bête ni son image (Apocalypse 14 : 10, 11.), et cela se fait lorsque ses fausses doctrines sont acceptées, comme observer le dimanche au lieu du Sabbat biblique ; quelqu’un le fera peut-être par conviction religieuse, alors il reçoit une marque sur son front ; si les gens l’acceptent pour des questions sociales ou politiques, ils reçoivent une marque sur leur main. Le message veut nous délivrer du châtiment suprême.
Le triple message angélique parle de vivre en sainteté dans l’obéissance à la loi de Dieu, voilà pourquoi il commence ainsi : « Craignez Dieu, et donnez-lui gloire. » Il est la révélation du caractère de Christ en nous. (2 Corinthiens 5 : 17.) « Combien il est essentiel que nous ayons l’illumination de l’Esprit de Dieu ; car seulement de cette manière pouvons-nous voir la gloire de Christ, et en contemplant devenir une nouvelle créature dans la foi et par la foi en Christ. … Il a la grâce et le pardon pour chaque âme. Comme par la foi nous regardons à Jésus, notre foi traverse l’ombre, et nous adorons Dieu pour son amour merveilleux en nous donnant Jésus le Consolateur. … » – Our Father Cares, p. 26.
« L’amour qui se manifestait envers lui dans la mort du Christ, éveille une réponse d’amour reconnaissant, et en réponse à la prière fervente, le croyant est introduit de grâce en grâce, de gloire en gloire, jusqu’à ce qu’en contemplant le Christ, il soit transformé en la même image.» – Our Father Cares, p. 26.
Si nous y réfléchissons bien, la lutte la plus âpre et terrible que nous ayons à combattre est la bataille contre le moi. Notre caractère est défectueux, le fruit d’une nature pécheresse. Nous aimons les pires choses et c’est pourquoi nous sommes égoïstes. La haine, la colère, l’orgueil, l’envie, la rancune, l’indifférence et d’autres mauvaises herbes poussent dans le jardin de notre cœur. Certains peuvent penser qu’ils vont très bien, mais la tendance au mal demeure en chacun de nous. (Romains 7 : 17.) Comment pouvons-nous révéler la gloire de Dieu, c’est-à-dire changer notre caractère ? Seulement à travers le processus de la justification, que Christ réalise en nous.
« La justice consiste à obéir à la loi. La loi exige la justice, et c’est ce que le pécheur doit à la loi ; mais il en est incapable. C’est par la foi seulement qu’il peut atteindre à la justice. Par la foi il peut apporter à Dieu les mérites du Christ, et le Seigneur place l’obéissance de son Fils sur le compte du pécheur. La justice du Christ est acceptée au lieu de la faillite de l’homme, et Dieu reçoit, pardonne, justifie l’homme repentant et croyant, le traite comme s’il était juste, et l’aime comme il aime son propre Fils. C’est ainsi que la foi est imputée à justice ; l’âme pardonnée avance de grâce en grâce, d’une lumière reçue à une plus grande lumière. » – Messages choisis, vol. 1, p. 430.
«La justice qui nous justifie est imputée ; celle qui nous sanctifie nous est communiquée. La première nous donne le droit d’entrée dans le ciel, la seconde nous qualifie pour y demeurer. » – Messages à la jeunesse, p. 32.
L’autre ange
Le message du premier ange d’Apocalypse 14, commença à être proclamé un peu avant 1844, date à laquelle l’instruction du jugement commence, ensuite viennent les deux autres messages. Au chapitre 18 de l’Apocalypse apparaît un autre ange qui s’unit aux trois autres ; le titre de ce thème implique que cet ange ne parle pas, pourquoi ? Parce que le message n’est pas annoncé par un ange, mais que c’est un mouvement de personnes, de même que les trois anges précédents, c’est en ce sens que l’ange ne parle pas, mais que ce sont les personnes qui doivent donner ce message.
Le message donné par l’ange de l’Apocalypse 18 est synthétisé dans les points suivants :

Il vient du ciel il est de Dieu et non des hommes. (Apocalypse 18 : 1.)

Il est proclamé par des hommes, qui ont commencé en 1888 à Minneapolis mais le message a été rejeté : « Alors, qu’est-ce que les frères, dans la terrible position qu’ils ont occupé, ont rejeté à Minneapolis ? Ils ont rejeté la pluie de l’arrière-saison, le grand cri du message du troisième ange. » (A.T. Jones, General Conference Daily Bulletin, 1893. p. 183.)

Il illumine la terre de sa gloire. (Apocalypse 18 : 1.) Le message a un commencement, un développement et un aboutissement.

Il répète le message du deuxième ange : « Babylone est tombée », parce qu’elle donne de fausses doctrines (habitation de démons). (Apocalypse 18 : 2, 3.)

Il invite à sortir des églises qui ont des fausses doctrines et qui sont donc Babylone ou filles de Babylone, (Apocalypse 18 : 4, 5.) afin de vivre en harmonie, par la grâce de Jésus, avec la loi de Dieu et ainsi refléter le caractère de Christ notre justice.

Ce message est proclamé et sera proclamé avec puissance par la Réforme Adventiste, puisqu’en 1914 la majorité des croyants adventistes ont apostasié en transgressant le quatrième et le sixième commandement.
