Nous vivons dans une société assez agitée, toujours à la hâte, sans temps pour les loisirs, le repos, la tranquillité. Je me souviens de ma première visite au Brésil, plus précisément dans la ville de São Paulo. J’ai pris le train pour une autre ville et il y avait tellement de gens qui attendaient sur le quai que lorsque le train arriva c’était comme une vague de gens qui poussaient pour entrer dans les wagons et à l’intérieur on ne pouvait pas s’asseoir, nous étions serrés comme des sardines dans une boite. Dans d’autres grandes villes, j’ai vécu la même expérience. Parfois, je me retrouve dans les files d’attente de voitures qui n’avancent pas du tout et il faut attendre des heures pour arriver à destination. En d’autres occasions, nous avons si peu de temps et tant d’activités à faire que nous ne pouvons pas partager, et nous finissons épuisés psychiquement et physiquement. Nous nous embarquons sur tant de projets et d’entreprises qu’à la fin du mois nous avons de nombreuses factures à payer. Ces situations angoissantes et d’autres provoquent du stress chez les personnes et il est difficile d’éviter l’agitation, l’anxiété et la pression mentale.
C’est comme ça dans de nombreuses parties du monde. Le stress a pris possession de milliers et de milliers de vies. Le mot vient de l’anglais stress, qui à son tour vient du vieux français estrece, et signifie “oppression”. En anglais, cela signifie aussi une tension exercée sur quelque chose.
Des chercheurs ont mis une grenouille dans de l’eau qui commença à bouillir ; la grenouille sauta hors de l’eau tout de suite. Puis ils l’ont mis dans de l’eau froide et ont allumé la flamme sous le récipient. Peu à peu, l’eau se réchauffa mais la grenouille ne remarqua pas le changement progressif et elle mourut.
Quand le stress devient notre routine quotidienne, nous nous y habituons sans nous en rendre compte, il endommage notre santé tant au niveau physique, psychologique que comportemental et nous finissons par être brûlés. Au niveau psychique, psychologique, émotionnel, le stress peut provoquer : une déficience cognitive, une difficulté à se concentrer, l’irritabilité, la colère, l’agressivité constante, l’agitation, l’anxiété, l’inquiétude exagérée, la lenteur de la pensée, les sautes d’humeur constantes, la dépression, les troubles du type affectif ; même jusqu’à la schizophrénie ou des troubles obsessionnels compulsifs. Le stress au travail peut mener à l’alcoolisme, au tabagisme, et à la consommation d’autres drogues.
Au niveau physique, le stress produit : l’insomnie, l’hypertension, les maladies coronariennes, la dermatite, l’urticaire, la chute des cheveux, la diarrhée, la constipation, les maux de tête chroniques, etc.
La médecine essaie d’aider toutes ces personnes avec des médicaments tels que des anxiolytiques ou des stratégies comportementales telles que l’exercice, la réflexion, éviter la consommation de caféine, plus de repos, sortir se promener, se distraire en regardant la télévision, écouter de la musique, faire du bricolage, avoir une vie sociale, etc. Tout cela est bien, mais le problème est que le stress revient presque toujours lorsque l’individu est placé dans les mêmes situations ; les gens partent faire une cure thermale et se détendent, mais se stressent à nouveau, c’est comme un cercle vicieux.
L’idéal serait de trouver une méthode qui nous aidera à vivre une vie équilibrée continue et à éviter de devenir si chargés de soucis qui nous stressent toujours plus. Dieu a cette méthode et c’est le repos hebdomadaire à part le repos quotidien.
Le don de Dieu
Ce n’était jamais le plan de Dieu que l’être humain vive dans l’angoisse, se laissant emporter par la vitesse de la vie, pour des journées pleines de stress et sans temps pour la culture personnelle. Dieu a donné le Sabbat hebdomadaire à Adam et Eve en Eden pour se reposer de leurs travaux. Ceux-ci n’étaient pas difficiles mais récréatifs, agréables, néanmoins le Sabbat fut introduit par Dieu.
Dieu n’était pas fatigué et la Bible dit qu’il s’est reposé, il le fit pour donner l’exemple (Genèse 2 : 2). L’être humain n’était pas non plus épuisé comme aujourd’hui, mais il devait se reposer, c’est-à-dire cesser de faire ses tâches hebdomadaires : « Cette occupation saine et agréable n’avait rien de pénible. Dieu a donné à l’homme le bienfait du travail pour occuper son esprit, fortifier son corps et développer ses facultés. L’activité mentale et physique à laquelle Adam se livrait était pour lui une des plus douces joies de son existence. » – Patriarches et prophètes, p. 27.
Le repos sabbatique avait comme objectif d’aider l’être humain à se concentrer sur des aspects très spécifiques qui, au cours de la semaine, pouvaient être perdus de vue : « Après s’être reposé au septième jour, Dieu le sanctifia, c’est-à-dire qu’il le mit à part, comme jour de repos à l’usage de l’homme. Appelé à suivre l’exemple de son Créateur, celui-ci devra consacrer au repos ce jour sacré, afin qu’en contemplant les cieux et la terre, il puisse élever sa pensée vers les œuvres de Dieu, le cœur débordant de révérence et d’amour pour l’auteur de ses jours. » – Patriarches et prophètes, p. 25.
« C’est dans le jardin d’Eden que le Seigneur établit le mémorial de son œuvre créatrice. Ce jour de repos fut confié à Adam, père et représentant de toute la famille humaine. Son observation devait être, de la part de tous ceux qui habiteraient sur la terre, un acte de gratitude envers Dieu, leur Créateur et légitime Souverain. Cette institution, qui avait un caractère absolument commémoratif, devenait le partage de toute l’humanité. N’ayant rien de symbolique, elle n’était pas limitée à quelque peuple particulier. » – Patriarches et prophètes, p. 25.
En résumé, l’objectif était que les êtres humains apprennent à laisser de côté leurs propres affaires et à se concentrer sur leur Créateur. Le repos du Sabbat allait toujours leur rappeler d’où ils venaient et combien Celui qui leur avait donné la vie était grand et merveilleux. Si le Sabbat avait toujours été observé, les athées n’existeraient pas et l’humanité ne serait pas soumise au stress.
Le repos de Dieu, notre repos
Après le péché, l’être humain a perdu de nombreux dons tels qu’une santé parfaite, le bonheur permanent, la sécurité (parce qu’il commença à avoir peur), l’innocence, la sainteté, etc. Cependant, Dieu, dans son grand amour et sa miséricorde, lui permit de prendre hors de l’Eden le repos du Sabbat, l’institution du mariage, la réforme sanitaire comme mode de vie et le don du travail pour fortifier le corps et l’esprit.
Maintenant, le travail après le péché allait souffrir une variante, l’homme allait gagner son pain à la « sueur de son front » (Genèse 3 : 19). Dans une autre version en espagnol dans la langue actuelle, il est dit : « Tu devras travailler très dur, pour obtenir ta nourriture. » Cela signifiait que leurs activités de travail allaient être menées avec un effort épuisant. L’une des significations du “travail” selon le Dictionnaire de l’Académie Royale, est : “Essayer d’obtenir quelque chose, généralement avec un effort”. C’est pourquoi Dieu a créé la nuit et le cycle du sommeil pour réparer les forces perdues pendant l’activité de la journée. Vous êtes-vous déjà demandé pourquoi nous ressentons le besoin impératif de dormir ? Ce n’est pas par hasard, c’est le dessein de Dieu.
Un travail sain et utile est une grande bénédiction pour promouvoir de bonnes habitudes, construire un caractère noble, promouvoir la santé, développer la créativité. Après une journée de travail, le repos est très agréable. Pendant que nous dormons, le corps épuisé est revigoré, nos cellules se renouvellent et le corps se prépare pour le travail du lendemain.
Le diable cherche à détruire les institutions édéniques et surtout dans la vie de chaque fils et fille de Dieu (1 Pierre 5 : 9) ; c’est pour cela qu’il rend le travail quelque peu fastidieux, avec beaucoup de pression mentale, et les statistiques nous disent que 87% des gens n’aiment pas le travail qu’ils font.1
Le diable a également introduit dans nos sociétés son plan de travail destructeur et contraire au gouvernement de Dieu : le divorce, ainsi que la solennité de samedi vers le dimanche et il a introduit des habitudes alimentaires qui détruisent la santé, au lieu du régime édénique dont le but est d’améliorer le bien-être physique.
Cependant comme enfants de Dieu, nous savons que les institutions édéniques sont des dons merveilleux pour chacun de nous et pour toute l’humanité. C’est pourquoi le Témoignage dit : « A la fin des temps, toutes les institutions divines seront restaurées. » – Prophètes et rois, p. 515.
Que pouvons-nous faire si nos métiers ne sont pas aussi agréables et créatifs que nous le souhaiterions ? Essayer de changer de travail, avec un peu de patience, de préparation, de prière et d’engagement, et si nous n’avons pas la possibilité de changer facilement d’activité, nous pouvons faire de notre mieux pour avoir une attitude mentale plus positive au jour le jour, regarder ce que nous n’aimons pas avec une autre perspective, faire en sorte que nous l’aimions ou du moins ne lui permettons pas de nous faire du mal.
Pendant les six jours de la semaine, le Seigneur a fourni un exutoire à la pression : Le repos en Christ : « Venez à moi, vous tous qui êtes fatigués et chargés, et je vous donnerai du repos. » Matthieu 11 : 28-30. Lorsque nous concentrons nos pensées sur Christ, il est plus facile de recevoir l’air pur qui rafraîchit l’âme et revigore le corps. Les promesses bibliques nous aident à faire face aux tâches fastidieuses, aux épreuves et aux difficultés quotidiennes plus facilement que si nous ne croyions pas en Dieu.
Le secret de Moïse pour être soutenu chaque jour et ne pas s’effondrer sous la pression de la vie était de se concentrer sur Dieu : « Car il se montra ferme, comme voyant celui qui est invisible. » Hébreux 11 : 27. N’oublions pas que le Seigneur nous a donné la nuit et le sommeil pour nous renouveler tous les jours. Chaque fois qu’arrive la fin de la journée, nous pouvons appliquer ces paroles bibliques à nos vies : « Ne vous inquiétez donc pas du lendemain ; car le lendemain aura soin de lui-même. A chaque jour suffit sa peine. » Matthieu 6 : 34. « Je me couche et je m’endors en paix, car toi seul, ô Eternel ! tu me donnes la sécurité dans ma demeure. » Psaume 4 : 8. « Et déchargez-vous sur lui de tous vos soucis, car lui-même prend soin de vous. » 1 Pierre 5 : 7.
Quand le septième jour de la semaine arrive, nous avons une autre opportunité encore plus grande pour nous renouveler physiquement, spirituellement et mentalement. C’est comme si le Seigneur nous donnait une triple portion de repos ce jour-là ; un renouvellement de nature supérieure. Le Seigneur nous demande dans sa sainte loi de travailler six jours et de nous reposer le septième : « Souviens-toi du jour du repos, pour le sanctifier. Tu travailleras six jours, et tu feras tout ton ouvrage. Mais le septième jour est le jour du repos de l’Eternel, ton Dieu : tu ne feras aucun ouvrage … » Exode 20 : 8-10. C’est la même loi que Dieu avait donnée à Adam et Eve en Eden ; si eux avaient besoin du Sabbat pour se reposer, même si leur travail n’était pas fatiguant, combien plus en avons-nous besoin.
Le Seigneur nous appelle à nous reposer tous les sept jours et cela signifie qu’il sait mieux que quiconque ce dont nous avons besoin, que cela doit être ainsi, parce qu’il nous a créés et il sait comment fonctionnent notre esprit et notre corps. Nous sommes conçus pour nous reposer le septième jour parce que notre corps, notre esprit et nos pensées en ont besoin.
Il semblerait, selon certains scientifiques, comme le Dr Franz Halberg de l’Université du Minnesota, connu comme le “père de la chronobiologie”, qu’il existe des fonctions organiques qui oscillent avec un rythme hebdomadaire. Ce sont des rythmes endogènes qui semblent dépendre d’une horloge interne inhérente au corps lui-même et un de ces rythmes endogènes le plus notable est le rythme “circaseptan” parce qu’il se répète tous les sept jours.2 Les rythmes quotidiens, “circadiens” sont nécessaires pour maintenir notre santé ; pendant notre sommeil de la nuit, nos cellules se régénèrent avec l’élimination des substances de déchets accumulés pendant le travail, elles augmentent les défenses, les blessures se cicatrisent et une énergie se forme pour faire face à la nouvelle journée d’activité. Tout est positivement affecté par le repos quotidien : la mémoire, la pensée, la réflexion.
Les cycles de repos des êtres humains, comme Dieu les a établis, aident au développement des fonctions supérieures, telles que la mémoire, la créativité, l’apprentissage, la vision spirituelle. Quand vient la nuit, nous savons qu’il est temps de nous reposer, mais quel signe avons-nous du repos hebdomadaire ? Quand le septième jour arrive, le jour du Sabbat ; ce n’est pas un jour comme un autre, car c’est le jour que le Seigneur a établi en Eden.
Le repos du Sabbat était, est et sera pour toujours un « signe » entre Dieu et son peuple, c’est le sceau de Dieu (Exode 31 : 13-17). En observant le Sabbat, nous sommes sanctifiés et bénis, c’est-à-dire déclarés heureux et bénis par Dieu (Esaïe 56 : 2). Nos enfants apprennent ainsi qu’il y a un Dieu dans les cieux qui les aime et qui doit être respecté et adoré pour sa souveraineté et son pouvoir créateur. La contemplation de la nature, l’étude de la Parole, les cantiques, les prières élevées au Seigneur le jour du Sabbat, créent des impressions indélébiles dans l’esprit des petits et des adultes.
Nous ne pouvons pas accepter Christ comme notre Sauveur personnel si nous n’observons pas ses commandements, parmi lesquels le quatrième qui exige l’observance du septième jour (Jean 14 : 15). Le peuple de Dieu de la fin des temps a la caractéristique indubitable de garder les commandements (Apocalypse 14 : 12). En outre, Jésus est le Seigneur du Sabbat (Matthieu 12 : 8). Quand nous nous reposons le septième jour, nous avons la paix (Esaïe 14 : 18), le stress et la pression mentale disparaissent.
Dieu nous invite à observer le Sabbat d’une manière spéciale, comme le fait remarquer le prophète (Esaïe 58 : 13, 14). Le Sabbat est si important que Dieu a prévu que son Fils Jésus, après la crucifixion, se reposerait dans la tombe le jour du Sabbat. Le Sabbat continuera à être observé jusque dans l’éternité (Esaïe 66 : 23).
En guise de réflexion
Nous savons qu’à l’avenir ceux qui observeront le septième jour de la semaine seront persécutés. Ils ne pourront plus acheter ni vendre s’ils n’acceptent pas le faux jour de repos : le dimanche (Apocalypse 13 : 17). Tout comme le signe de Dieu est le Sabbat, la marque de la bête est le dimanche. Certains pourront conclure que si le cycle ou le rythme hebdomadaire est observé en observant le dimanche, le but de Dieu est également atteint. Mais c’est une énorme tromperie.
Dieu a institué le Sabbat en Eden comme jour de repos, les patriarches et les prophètes ont observé le jour du Sabbat pendant une période de quatre mille ans. Quand le Christ est venu, tant ses disciples que lui-même ont observé le Sabbat et même après sa mort le Sabbat continuerait à être observé ; sinon le Maître n’aurait pas dit à ses disciples de prier pour que leur fuite n’ait pas lieu en hiver ou un jour de Sabbat (Matthieu 24 : 20).
Esaïe nous montre le futur, quand la terre est recréée et nous dit que dans l’éternité le Sabbat continuera à être observé, et plus encore, que toute chair se présentera chaque Sabbat devant l’Eternel pour l’adorer (Esaïe 66 : 23). N’est-il pas vraiment illogique sans aucun sens d’enseigner qu’après quatre mille ans d’observation du Sabbat, Jésus annulerait cet ordre divin par sa mort et sa résurrection et introduirait le dimanche comme un nouveau signe ? Pourquoi tout ce changement si dans l’éternité le dimanche devrait être éliminé pour introduire à nouveau le Sabbat qui sera observé éternellement ?
C’est dans le quatrième commandement de la loi qu’apparaît le sceau de Dieu, où il y a son nom, sa fonction et son territoire. Comme tout tampon pour un professionnel doit contenir ces éléments indispensables. « Car en six jours l’Eternel a fait les cieux, la terre et la mer, et tout ce qui y est contenu, et il s’est reposé le septième jour : c’est pourquoi l’Eternel a béni le jour du repos et l’a sanctifié. » Exode 20 : 11. Voici le nom du propriétaire du sceau : L’Eternel ; sa fonction : Créateur ; son territoire : les cieux, la terre et la mer.
Le moment est venu de profiter de la tranquillité d’esprit que Dieu veut nous donner chaque fois que le septième jour de la semaine arrive. Retrouvons-nous ensemble, retrouvons ceux qui sont seuls pendant la semaine, jouissons de la compagnie d’autres croyants le jour du Sabbat ; les soucis, la crainte, la dépression, l’incertitude, l’agitation, les pensées négatives, qui provoquent le stress, sont mis de côté. Nous entrons dans une communion plus profonde avec Christ et la bénédiction du Sabbat repose sur nous. Ayez le courage d’observer le jour que Dieu a conçu pour vous, afin que vous ayez la paix et le vrai repos. Si nous voulons vaincre le stress, nous savons quel chemin prendre. Que Dieu vous bénisse. Amen.
